Giving in to the feelings.
Families gathering around the TV on Sunday night, watching the Ed Sullivan show. Among the crooners and plate spinners and Topo Gigio, the Beatles appeared. The audience was stocked with young women screaming in response to the performance. Not the first generation to become overcome at a musical performance, the press called them "teenyboppers", hysterical, and compared it to religious fervor.
The phenomenon was massive - through television, center of common experience, millions of people of all ages experienced the performance, whether frenzy, curiosity or a sense of humor.
Well, shake it up, baby, now
Twist and shout
Come on, come on, come, come on, baby, now
Come on and work it on out
Well, work it on out, honey
You know you look so good
You know you got me goin' now
Just like I knew you would
Well, shake it up, baby, now
Twist and shout
Come on, come on, come, come on, baby, now
Come on and work it on out
You know you twist, little girl
You know you twist so fine
Come on and twist a little closer now
And let me know that you're mine, woo
