These are the aerators.   There were fields of them on the walk I took from my home to my high school each day.    Acres of concrete fields of fountains spraying water many feet in the air – freezing solid mid spray in the winter, and a cool gathering place on a hot summer day.  Walking by, I liked to watch the water spray in the air, creating rainbows on sunny days, and catch a bit of spray.  Summer evenings, couples in cars would gather to cuddle and watch the water.
